We are in a land of hand weaving and the culture rich textiles in Bolivia are mind blowing.
The traditional hand built wood looms are simple in their structure and remind me of an old Fisher Price loom I had as a child, with its single lever handle to change the thread placement entrapping each row. As the tools are simple, its the skilled hands and minds of the weaver which create the complexity of colour and design. A single woven row of these master pieces would have the plastic bolts popping off my childhood loom at the very thought.
From Lambs wool to Alpaca the yarns are dyed in a rainbow of natural vibrant colours using plant extracts. The elaborate geometric designs are influenced by the weavers environment and represent local or spiritual animals and fauna.
