An authentic Ikat fabric from our Maya Collection.
The Ikat is created using traditional methods. The yarns are bound by hand to create the pattern. It is then hand dyed in black and when the binds are untied the patten appears. This gives a feathered edge to the design where the dye has seeped in at the edge of the binds. The yarn is then set onto a pedal loom and woven. We are working with a weaving cooperative in Guatemala to create this fabrics using traditional methods.
Fabric width 94cm wide, design repeat 47cm, sold by the metre.
Pattern Repeat 45cm (in length), 4cm (in width).
Due to the hand crafted characteristics the longest continuous length we can supply of this design is 8M's. There may also be minor variations in shading and the placement of the pattern, all of which tell a part of this distinctive fabrics journey.
