Project Spotlight | A RUM FELLOW | Mary Kathryn Wells

Photography by Mary Craven Dawkins

Mary Kathryn Wells is celebrated for her fearless use of vibrant colour and pattern — each project she touches bursts with personality and warmth. Recently featured in The New York Times, Mary’s own Nashville home is no exception; it stands as a true celebration of joyful, lived-in design.

Describing her home as “a love letter to my family,” Mary designed every space with real life in mind. Home to five people and one dog, the house embraces the beauty of bold colour, layered pattern, and meaningful detail.

Each room is thoughtfully composed: rich hues, playful prints, layered furnishings, and whimsical touches come together to create an environment that feels vibrant, personal, and deeply welcoming. Among these thoughtful choices, Mary selected our Hikira and Loho flatweave rugs — pieces that perfectly echo the sense of playfulness and brightness that define her home.

The result is a space that doesn’t strive for serene minimalism but instead celebrates the harmony between joy and chaos— a reflection of real family life, beautifully expressed through design.
