design HIGHLIGHT | A RUM FELLOW | Periscope RUG: A study in perspective

OUR Periscope rug has remained a firm favourite among A Rum Fellow clients since its debut, admired for its subtle geometry and timeless appeal.

Since its debut at the 2023 London Design Festival, Periscope has remained a firm favourite among A RUM FELLOW clients, admired for its subtle geometry, thoughtful construction, and enduring appeal.

The design explores perspective and optical illusion, weaving familiar narratives into something fresh and contemporary. Inspired by the art of patchwork and handcrafted mending, small fragments coalesce into a harmonious whole. Drawing on mid-century Swedish weaving and traditional Welsh blanket patterns, its geometric forms are structured yet softened, enlivened through a rich, playful colour palette.

For a family snug designed by Talia Cobbold, Periscope in Nightshade anchors the scheme. Layered textures and prints build around the rug, producing a room that is both liveable and effortlessly chic.

In a past residential project by Maddux Creative, Periscope in Mirage introduced a subtle layer of pattern and texture. Its gentle geometric rhythm complements block-panelled walling, creating a quiet dialogue between softness and form.

In a layered interior by Micaela Sharp, the Periscope flatweave rug in Melba provides the finishing touch. Its earthy tones echo the warmth of the artwork and soften the plastered walls, creating a harmonious, inviting autumnal atmosphere.

At a Covent Garden residence styled by Bun Einchcomb, the brief was to introduce colour and warmth to previously minimalist all-white rooms. Periscope in Nightshade anchors the scheme, bringing pattern and texture that complement rich furnishings and architectural details, creating a cosy, inviting home in the heart of the city.

Periscope is available in Melba, Nightshade, Mirage, Sunray, Fired, and Putty — now also in Lichen, Saddle, and Forget-Me-Not.

Each new colourway reveals different nuances in the pattern, offering fresh possibilities for layering within contemporary interiors.
